Cassandra Davis

Pastor of Jesus Saves Missionary Baptist Church

 

Pastor Cassandra Davis accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 12 by her pastor, the late Pastor James Jones, Jr., of Cornerstone MB Church. She later joined Spirit of Love MB Church under the leadership of the late Pastor George Anthony.  In 1979, she attended a church planting meeting organized by her father, Elder W. E. Whitfield.  She sought the blessings of Pastor Anthony, then returned and joined the newly established Jesus Saves Missionary Baptist Church which Elder Whitfield founded and pastored for over 42 years. Her passion for singing led Pastor Whitfield to appoint her as President and Director of the choir.

She worked in the telecommunications and information systems industries for 31 years at the Bell and AT&T companies and spin-offs, and then after accepting an early retirement from Avaya, was recruited by IBM and worked there another 10 years.   

At times, as she traveled across the highways and skyways, the Lord was urging her on a path away from her occupation towards her vocation. Even during her professional career, she was often sought out for advice and counsel.  Finally acknowledging that the Lord had a greater calling on her life, but not willing to accept that the call was to preach, she spoke with Elder Whitfield about being a Missionary and was licensed on August 21, 2005.  Later that year, the Lord presented Pastor Davis with another vision which she tried to transfer to her late husband, Alfonzo, insisting that he was going to preach, and she would be his assistant.  He told her, “No, it’s not me, it’s you; you are going to preach, but it’s not time yet!” Still, it was several months before she told her dad.  Once she told him, he began mentoring her.  December 31, 2006, she preached her first sermon and was licensed and ordained as a minister by Pastor Whitfield.

On the advice of Pastor Whitfield, she enrolled in a Moody Bible College Distance Learning degree program led by the late Pastor Charles Floyd of New Mt. Olive MB Church.  After retiring from IBM in 2011, the Lord placed it on her heart to return to college, but this time for ministry-related studies instead of Computer Science which she had studied at Moraine Valley College and Roosevelt University. Later that year, she enrolled at Indiana Wesleyan University from which she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies.  Also, in June of that year, Elder Whitfield appointed her as Co-Pastor of Jesus Saves Missionary Baptist Church and named her as his successor.

Pastor Davis accepted leadership of Jesus Saves Missionary Baptist Church at a very difficult time for our church and for her personally, the illness and subsequent death of her father; our founder and Pastor Emeritus Elder W. E. Whitfield.  She led our church through the covid pandemic and kept the congregation engaged by instituting online services.  As the covid pandemic restrictions were eased, the Lord placed upon her heart that it was time to return to the sanctuary. She did so with the blessings of Pastor Whitfield who was ill at the time. 

In a very short timeframe, Pastor Davis initiated several improvements to our church home, including the construction of a ramp outside and a handicapped-accessible bathroom upstairs in the sanctuary. She was installed as Pastor on May 8, 2022, after the passing of our beloved Pastor Emeritus, Elder W. E. Whitfield.  Under her leadership, we have completely remodeled the kitchen and both bathrooms in the lower level, even adding a second stall and vanity in the women’s bathroom.  Members that had been out after the pandemic have returned and new members have joined.

Pastor Davis is a member of the One God One Body (OGOB) Fellowship for which she organized and directs the Fellowship Choir.  It is our pleasure to honor our pastor on her second pastoral anniversary. To God be the glory for the things He has done!
