OUR HISTORY

Jesus Saves Missionary Baptist Church was organized on July 29, 1979, at the home of our founder and Pastor, Elder W. E. Whitfield.

Seven names were put before the group and the name of Jesus Saves Missionary Baptist Church was chosen.  Our church was incorporated in May of 1980.  Since organizing, Jesus Saves has experienced great triumphs.

After organizing at our Pastor’s home we began having service at the Concord Community Center on West 19th Avenue in Gary.  Often times we would have to clean up the party debris left from Saturday night before we could have service but we stayed there until the Lord blessed us to find our current church home.  On February 22, 1981, we purchased and moved into our present location at 464 Roosevelt Street.

After moving into our new church home, with the blessings of the Lord and the foresight of our Pastor, we were able to burn the mortgage in two short years.  We have continually improved our house of worship, including expanding the worship area, remodeling the lower level and an office was built for Pastor Whitfield.

Over the years four buses have been purchased. The bus ministry continues to provide service to our community for short and long distance trips.

We can truly witness, “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.”
